> IEC outlet with IDC terminals speed assembly for power distribution units

SCHURTER announces its latest IEC appliance outlet with insulation displacement contact (IDC) terminals, the 4710. The new outlet provides increased power ratings over the popular 6610 series for heavier duty PDU applications.

The 4710 is a J style outlet according to IEC 60320, rated 20 A @ 250 VAC by UL/CSA and 16 A @ 250 VAC by ENEC. The lower current version, 6610 series, is a style F outlet, rated 15 A @ 250 VAC and 10 A @ 250 VAC respectively. The 4710 provides IDC terminals for 10 AWG / 6.0 mm2 in addition to 12 AWG / 4.0 mm2, which is the standard wire size for the 6610. The new wire option allows for larger diameter wire for the 4710’s increased power capabilities. The snap-in outlets fit panels with a thickness between 0.8 mm and 3 mm.

The 4710 and 6610 outlets are qualified for use in applications designed to IEC/EN 60950. Ideal for use in power distribution units, and other equipment where multiple outlets are banked in series, these IDC outlets allow wires to be bussed across the terminals, thereby connecting common terminals all at once and significantly reducing labor costs. The IDC terminals are arranged either along or across the connector pin axis for a horizontal or vertical mounting orientation. Wires are pressed into place with the protective back cover or with a tool. Versions with combination IDC and a quick-connect or solder terminal, for separate wiring of the line connection, are also available.

The outlets are offered with light pipe options for status indication. They also mate with V-Lock latching cordsets designed to prevent unintentional disconnection from the power. Approvals include cURus, ENEC and CCC.

> PSE and MCS 30 multicolor switch with status display
PSE_NO

Metal Line Switches with Multicolor illumination and variable input voltage. SCHURTER is expanding its PSE, piezo metal switch and MCS 30, mechanical metal switch series, with new illumination possibilities powered by variable input voltages. Based on the used RGB color technology, it’s now possible to indicate up to seven illumination color options with just one switch. The variable power supply offers a homogenous and brilliant illumination within a voltage range of 5 to 28 VDC.

The new multicolor illumination of the PSE and MCS 30 series is made easy using convenient color-coded wires in each of the illumination colors. Each color is given a specific voltage between 5 to 28 VDC. The constant brightness intensity is maintained regardless of applied voltage. The standard version is offered in red, green, and blue. Additional color options include yellow, cyan, magenta and white, which can be made through additive color mixing. As soon as the 2 or 3 wires are supplied with the applied voltage at the same time, the result is a mixed color. The traffic light colors of red, green and yellow (RGY) for status indication are also available as a standard version. No additive color mixing is required to produce the color yellow.

The new RGB multicolor illumination option greatly expands the application range of the PSE and MCS 30 button style switches. The PSE is available in 22 / 24 / 27 / 30 mm diameters; the MCS 30 is available with a 30 mm diameter. The PSE has an IP69K ingress protection rating. It has no moving actuator and is thus absolutely impervious to any leaks or accumulation of dirt underneath or around the switch surface. This technology is ideal for hygiene-related applications such as medical equipment, food processing equipment and outdoor applications subject to vandalism such as ticketing machines.

The MCS 30 is an alternative to the highly robust, solid state PSE. It is also designed for demanding applications, although it uses a tactile switch that provides a clear haptic feedback. It has a lifetime rating of one million actuations, as opposed to the PSE’s 20 million operations. The switch contacts are sealed from the front and rated IP65.

> DKIH: Common mode chokes for 1- and 3-phase applications mount on PCB
DKIH_1

SCHURTER expands its wide range of current compensated chokes with high current types for PCB mounting. The new DKIH series are available for single and three phase applications with rated currents from 10 to 50 amperes. Due to its open design, the chokes are light weight and compact, ideally designed to suppress EMI noise caused by power applications on the PCB.

Like all other aspects of electronic design, the power portion is oftentimes built today using discrete components on printed circuit boards. With the trending integration of components, to achieve smaller and smaller form factors, thermal problems and high currents on the PCB can arise. It also becomes increasingly challenging to meet EMC requirements with a filter package due to the resulting space constraints; therefore a filter on PCB with discrete components is a good solution. Next, the capacitors and a common mode choke, with asymmetrical effective inductance, are very effective to dampen EMI noise.

The new DKIH-1 series is suitable for single phase AC or DC applications from 10 up to 50 amperes. Light weight and compact, the common mode chokes are easily placed on the PCB with through hole technology (THT). They are designed and approved according IEC 60938, UL 1283 and CSA 22.2 no. 8. The voltage rating is 300 VAC (IEC, UL) and 250 VAC (CSA).

The new DKIH-3 series is suitable for three phase AC applications from 10 up to 50 amperes. The common mode chokes are also designed according IEC 60938 and are rated 600 VAC, making them suitable for many applications.

The DKIH-1 and -3 have a wide temperature range of -40 to +100°C. They are available with a standard pin out or customer specific pin out. Variations in the winding are also available on request.

> SCHURTER announces VDE and UL approvals for its SMD fuse with 1500 A breakingcCapacity
UMT_H

Compact, high performance fuse is optimal for intrinsically safe applications SCHURTER’s Universal Modular fuse, UMT-H, offers a 1500 A breaking capacity at rated voltages of 277 VAC / 250 VDC. The compact, high performance fuse now has VDE approval in addition to UL approval. This time-lag fuse provides overcurrent and short circuit protection in various industrial control applications, including intrinsically safe applications.

The “intrinsic safety” method is one of the most common techniques used for achieving safety protection with lower voltage or power equipment. This method restricts the available electrical and thermal energy in a system so that ignition of a hazardous atmosphere (such as explosive gas, dust, or electrical arcing) cannot occur. The UMT-H’s high breaking capacity of 1500 A, plus the >10 mm spacing between end caps, combined with the ability to be impermeable to conformal coating makes the fuse suitable for use in such intrinsically safe applications.

The UMT-H fuse is available in a total of 19 rated currents between 160 mA and 10 A at voltages up to 277 VAC and 250 VDC. The UMT-H measures at 5.3 x 16 mm, which is a smaller alternative to the classic cylindrically-shaped cartridge fuses (e.g. 5 x 20 mm). The smaller footprint saves valuable board space, allowing for further downsizing of equipment. With its square design, the UMT-H is also suited for more cost-effective, automated assembly. The high breaking capacity fuse meets the IEC 60127-7/1, UL 248-14 and CSA C22.2 standards along with its VDE and UL approvals. Additional applications include power supplies, electromobility, medical and telecommunication applications as well as 277 VAC utility-connected equipment.

> KFA: Compact power entry module with filter now with ground line choke
KFA

SCHURTER’s popular power entry module, KFA series, is now equipped with an additional ground line choke to suppress high frequency interference arising from ground loops on the ground line. In addition, the newly added ground line choke improves asymmetric attenuation in higher frequencies in medical filter versions. The KFA series with existing common-mode choke on the phase and neutral conductors, together with an additional ground line choke, is well enhanced to address the growing EMC challenges facing compliance engineers today.

Ground loops arise through different impedances of different ground line connections in one or multiple pieces of equipment. While all ground connections have the same potential level for the 50 Hz load current, these can have different potential levels for high-frequency interference. The ground line choke, which is wired between the power-inlet connector and the filter output, smartly addresses this phenomenon. Because of its placement directly at the power line input, high-frequency interference currents on the ground line are prevented from bypassing the filter through the equipment housing. The ground line choke isolates the equipment chassis against high frequencies and the equipment ground from the ground on the line power connection. This approach effectively breaks any possible ground loops.

Audio equipment for instance is known for being prone to ground loop problems. Often referred to as hum or buzz, the KFA, with ground line choke, is well suited for suppressing interferences that lead to diminished sound quality. The KFA is also well suited for medical equipment required to use low leakage filters for increased patient safety. The reduced Y capacitance to ground, or absence thereof, leads to reduced asymmetric attenuation in higher frequencies. The KFA with ground line choke helps to compensate for this reduced performance.

The KFA power entry module includes an IEC C14 power inlet connector with a 1- or 2-pole fuseholder and EMC filter and is available in a wide range of models and designs. The series offers current levels from 1A to 10A at 250 VAC according to IEC and UL standards. The series has ENEC and cURus approvals and is suited for applications according to IEC 60950. Special filter versions, M5 and M80, are available for medical devices according to IEC 60601-1. Wiring is done using quick-connect terminals or wire leads. The KFA is compatible with V-Lock cord sets, designed to safeguard against unintentional disconnection of the power.

> Power entry module DC12 for protection class II medical equipment used at home
DC12

SCHURTER expands its wide range of power entry modules to include versions, without ground pin, for use in Protection Class II double-insulated applications. The DC12 power entry module is already popular for use in Protection Class I equipment, due to its high performance switch and EMC filter functions integrated into one compact package. The new Protection Class II version is perfectly suited for medical equipment used at home where the medical standard prescribes the use of Protection Class II design.

The new DC12 Class II version is according to IEC 60320-1, style C18. It is particularly well suited for use in medical equipment according to the IEC standard 60601-1-11, which outlines additional safety measures specific to medical equipment intended for use in the home. There is increasing demand for such equipment as populations around the world age and healthcare costs continue to rise.

Protection Class II equipment, in contrast to Protection Class I equipment, generally has no metal case. This category of equipment is called double insulated, and requires higher safety levels for energized components relative to exposed surfaces. The DC12 Class II power entry module provides double insulation between energized components and exposed parts. This reinforced insulation is tested with a voltage of 4000 VDC between the energized conductor (L) and the neutral conductor (N) relative to the filter case.

The DC12 line switch is available in 1- or 2-pole and touts high inrush current withstand capability. The EMC filter is available in medical and low leakage, M5, versions. This integrated filter at the power input provides highly effective interference suppression, which results in optimized electromagnetic compatibility. Current ratings range from 1-10 A at 250 VAC. Versions with quick-connect or solder terminals are available. The DC12 is available in black or white. Mating V-Lock cord sets are available to safeguard against unintentional disconnection of the power.

The DC12 Class I and Class II are ENEC and cURus approved. They are suited for use in equipment according to IEC 60950, IEC 60601-1, in addition to IEC 60601-1-11.
